eidner Architectural Signage was founded as House of Signs by Ed and Char Weidner in 1955.   In the firm’s early years, Ed continued to work his night shift as a Sacramento police officer. The business rapidly grew: under Ed’s leadership, the company did the first signs for Shakey’s pizza parlors, a locally founded enterprise that became a global success story, requiring that Weidner ship signs to its franchises all over the world. In 1963, we settled into our offices and plant at 4517 Franklin Boulevard in California’s capital city, where we’ve continued to expand. This location has been ideal for shipping and receiving: we’re minutes from Interstates 5 and 80, Highways 50, 99 and 16; from Sacramento International Airport and several cargo/air-freight air parks; from the Port of Sacramento and interstate rail. As the years progressed, so did the company’s capabilities: paint brushes, rollers and plywood gave way to an industry dominated by computer-driven routers, vinyl cutters and welders. And while Weidner remained strong by anticipating trends and modernizing its operations, its greatest successes were, and continue to be, attributable to its bedrock values of service and adaptability.

		Not surprisingly, a great deal of the firm's customer base is comprised of repeat and referred clients. In 1988, the next generation of Weidners assumed the daily management of the company: son Rick was named president; daughter Kathy became vice president. (And yes, semi-retired Ed Weidner is still a regular visitor to the business he co-founded with Char.) Today, the family continues to invest in the future with its purchases of major computer system upgrades that enhance project tracking and management, and client communications. It’s not uncommon these days to see Rick’s and Kathy’s children spending vacations and after-school time learning the business, promising that still another generation of Weidners is waiting in the wings to continue the family tradition of quality and pride in workmanship - and relationships.
